R410 Phase Out FAQs
What’s Changing
Government standards are changing. The American Innovation & Manufacturing Act was passed in 2020, allowing the EPA the ability to set more specific standards for hydrofluorocarbons use in refrigerant.
In September 2021 the EPA released a detailed plan to reduce HFC consumption from 2022 through 2036. Effective January 2025, HVAC equipment containing R410 refrigerant can no longer be manufactured. This change comes in conjunction with new SEER requirements designed to increase energy efficiency standards for HVAC equipment produced in 2025 and beyond.
As a result, HVAC manufacturers must cease production of R410A equipped units at the end of 2024.
What if I have a newer R410 system?
R410 production was cut 10% in 2023 and will be reduced another 40% in 2024 as the industry moves to completely phase it out. Jansen has invested in a healthy stock of R410 refrigerant to ensure we can properly service our customers and keep equipment running properly, as well as keeping pricing as low as possible.
Will I need to replace my R410 system?
Not right away. Jansen will continue to maintain your system at the lowest possible cost. Prices will continue to get higher overtime and as supply of R410 is limited. Equipment shortages can be also be expected as manufacturers retool production lines and deplete current inventory.
