What to Do if the Outside AC Unit’s Not Running But the Inside Is

Split-system ACs and heat pumps have an inside unit and an outside unit. When one of them breaks down, it’s likely to involved components that are unique to that unit. For example, if the outside AC unit breaks down and the inside one is running, the problem could be a malfunctioning fan, or more seriously, a broken compressor. On the other hand, if the inside unit has stopped running, the problem could be the power supply, the blower fan or an issue with the thermostat. If the cooling equipment is running, both inside and outside, but it’s not cooling, that could be any number of other issues.
