Secure Your Dogs and Cats Before Your Cincinnati HVAC Technician Arrives

If you own a dog or dogs that bark a lot or otherwise behave aggressively when exposed to strangers, you’ll want to batten down the hatches when inviting an HVAC service technician into your home.

Even if you believe the animal is “safe,” the technician doesn’t necessarily know or believe that, plus some dogs may be fine with the family while potentially posing a danger to strangers.

What to do if You Have an Aggressive Animal and Expect a Visit from an HVAC Tech…

  1. First of all, if at all possible, place your dogs in a separate room or secure outside area before the technician arrives.
  2. Put the pet(s) someplace where barking or growling won’t make it difficult to communicate with the technician or for him or her to concentrate on the job at hand.
  3. For a lengthy service or installation appointment, consider boarding Sparky for the day at a trusted kennel or at a friend’s house.
  4. If you’re confident your dog(s) pose no threat to a visiting technician or tradesman, warn them ahead of time that you have one or more pets.
  5. If the technician shows any concern at all, consider removing your pets as suggested above. Once you have found an HVAC company you like, it would be a shame to cause unnecessary friction with your favorite Cincinnati furnace and AC repair company.

Don’t be that person who assumes their pet will be loved by everyone.

If your dog(s) are safe with strangers and you decide not to remove them while the technician is working in your home, at least introduce your pet(s) to the service worker, speaking calmly and confidently.

Ask the technician to call your dog by name. And don’t assume the technician will be OK with your “friendly” dog or dogs jumping on them. That will only delay his or her work on your HVAC issue.

If your dogs are fine with the technician and vice versa, and they seem OK to have the animals around, but your pooches are prone to escaping through an open door, emphasize the importance of keeping doors closed to the technician.

In preparing your home for a visit from an HVAC technician, move any pet toys, food bowls, dog beds, etc. away from the route to your HVAC system and the area round it.

What About the Cats?

If you have one or more cats, move any litter boxes or food bowls away from the area where the technician will be working. As with your dog(s), the safest bet is to just move Kitty into a separate room. Overly affectionate cats can get in the way of a sensitive heating or cooling system repair.

And it’s possible the technician will have a cat allergy.
