What to do if Your Heater Won’t Turn On

It’s cold outside, and you have no heat. Before you call the pros to come see what’s the matter, here are steps to take if your heater won’t kick on: 1. Check the thermostat: Make sure it is powered on and set to heat. If it’s battery-operated, replace the batteries. 2. Check the circuit breaker: Make sure the circuit breaker for your furnace is on. If it’s in the middle, switch it to off and then back on. 3. Check the air filter: A clogged air filter can prevent your heater from igniting. If your air filter is dirty, change it. 4. Check the pilot light: If your heater’s pilot light is out, it won’t be able to ignite. 5. Cycle the power: Try cycling the power on your HVAC system.
